In order to get a bail bondsman license in North Carolina, you must:

  1. Meet the minimum Bail bondsman qualifications.

  2. Participate in the 3 Day Pre-licensing Bail Education Class. The cost of this class is $500.

  3. Obtain and complete an application along with supervising agent signature.

  4. Get electronically finger printed in your local county. The cost for finger printing is $25.

  5. Send your application to Pearson VUE with applicable attachments. The cost for the application is either $313 or $233, and it depends on the license for which you’re applying. The mailing address of Pearson VUE is located on the application itself.

  6. Receive your qualification letter from DOI and set the date for taking the state exam. The letter is valid for up to 30 days.

  7. Take the state exam. The cost of this exam is $56.50.

  8. If you pass, your license is then mailed to you.

  9. If you fail, you may reapply again in one year.

There are classes available to those interested in bail bondsman licensing, and they are a requirement in order to obtain a bail bondsman license in North Carolina. Pre-licensing classes are held at the McKimmon Center at NCSU in Raleigh, North Carolina. These classes are held from 9:00am to 4:30pm each day.
